Richard Fahey dominates Beverley
Chocolate Caramel did the business for John Smith's Cup hero Richard Fahey at Beverley as he stayed on for top honours in the Mary Elizabeth Westwood Celebration Handicap.
The Malton trainer on Saturday savoured another red-letter day at York when Flying Clarets earned Fahey back-to-back victories in the Knavesmire feature.
Chocolate Caramel's triumph may have been at a lower level, but his lengthand-a-half verdict added further credence to the handler's expertise with this stamp of animal.
The 20-1 chance twice failed to convince over two miles when trained by Amanda Perrett, but devoured every yard of this demanding trip to defeat the consistent Hits Only Vic on only his third start for the Fahey team.
"We always thought he needed a trip, so we had no concerns about coming here for this race," said winning owner Jonathan Gill, who claimed the six-year-old at York in May.
"Everything was right with the ground and the trip, so I must say I was surprised he was such a big price."
