Superbowl Winner
With the 16-1 Steelers beating the 50-1 Cardinals in last year’s Superbowl, it is clear that the NFL is wide open and unlike domestic football, it provides a format where just about anyone can get hot at the right time and take home the big prize. A sensible staking strategy is picking one Superbowl winner from each conference and placing both bets e/w. Here are my teams that appear to be good value with the bookies…
New Orleans – NFC:
As you can see I’ve not selected New Orleans as a team to bet on for a division win, yet I’m picking them to win the Superbowl – “how can that be” I hear you ask? Well, I’ve learnt not to put all my eggs in one basket first of all and secondly The Saints are the type of team that might just copy Arizona’s blueprint to Superbowl success last year. If they can get through a tough division, they are capable of getting hot at the right time and going on a good playoff run. Their offence is going to be amongst the league’s best and if new co-ordinator Greg Williams can help the new faces gel together, this is a team no-one will want to play in January and 22-1 @ Bet365 is well worth a punt.
San Diego – AFC:
There are a few good reasons why San Diego merit consideration here. Firstly, they play the easiest division in the NFL, therefore are practically guaranteed a playoff place and possible first round bye / home field advantage. This should also be the first season The Chargers enter the season with a clean bill of health, with stars like Merriman & Tomlinson hopefully back at the top of their games. Coach Turner has shed the reputation as an average coach and has really helped QB Philip Rivers progress into an elite passer. The chargers have a favourable schedule and excellent balance on offence defence and special teams – they’ll be difficult to beat – 10-1 generally is a good price!!!
Sonny D Bet recommendations for The Superbowl:
San Diego to win Superbowl 1pt e/w @ 10-1 with Boylesports
New Orleans to win Superbowl 1pt e/w @ 22-1 with Bet365
NFL Specials
If you fancy a dabble on some NFL specials (players to get the most pass, catch, run etc yards) it adds some good fun to your viewing over the season – and if you look hard enough, there’s some great value out there too! My suggestion would be 2 points on a relative favourite, with 1 point on a good value outsider, e/w. Here are my picks:
Most passing yards:
Aaron Rogers – has a year under his belt and a soft schedule to exploit – should put up big numbers – 14/1 @ Ladbrokes - 2pts e/w. Matt Hasselbeck – 6 games v NFC West and good receivers makes 66-1 @ Betfred crazy odds – great e/w bet, if he can stay healthy 1pt e/w.
Most receiving yards:
Greg Jennings – has the size and speed required to make the big play – has the QB, system and schedule to see plenty of the ball @ 16-1 with Stan James - 2pts e/w.
Devin Hester – Jay Cutler’s cannon arm and Hester’s freakish athleticism should make interesting bedfellows @ 66-1 with totesport.com/asset_tracker?action=asset_req&new=1&aff_id=2507&asset_id=114" border="0" width="1" height="1" />Totesport - 1pt e/w.
Most rushing yards:
With Adrian Peterson the likely winner here, I’d stick to one e/w bet, hoping AP gets injured or has an off season. Chris Johnson is good value. Expect him to get more carries this season. He runs behind the best line in football and a team that emphasises the run. Expect Johnson to thrive. 22-1 @ Stan James - 2pts e/w.
Happy betting. The team at Bigtips will look forward to your thank you letters / e-mails come season’s end!!!
