NFL Preview 2009 - Week 5
A bit of a disasterous week last week.. But every punter knows that you are going to get them, you just hope that you can learn enough from your losses to put them to good use in the future and turn them into profit at a later date.
N.Y Jets @ Miami
The Jets lost for the first time last weekend carrying our dough, but they looked good in doing so!!!
QB Mark Sanchez made his first rookie mistakes of the season, intercepted 3 times, and fumbling once, two of the turnovers being returned for touchdowns, those mistakes undoubtabley cost New York. That said the Green Machine were still competitive for most of the contest even with those mistakes. The Jets 'D' held Drew Brees to less than 200 yds passing and allowed the high powered New Orleans offense to convert only 4 of 13 third downs. This defensive unit has now only conceded 3 touchdowns in it's first four games which is remarkable considering the opposition of Houston, New England, Tennessee and the Saints. The 'D' is about to get even stronger this week, welcoming back influential LB, Calvin Pace from a four week suspension.
Miami have been running the ball very well out of their 'Wildcat' formation.. The Fins have little else to offer though especially with 1st choice QB Chad Pennington injured, replaced by the unproven Chad Henne. Miami's Wildcat offense tends to fail against the premier defenses in the league, just as it did against Rex Ryans Baltimore led 'D' in the playoffs last year (RB's Ronnie Brown & Ricky Williams both rushed for less than 20yds in that game). Ryan now Head Coach in New York is unlikely to let Miami's gimmicks fool him. I had the Jets as 3.5pt favourites for this one, meaning they should be 8/15 shots to win the match.. Sanchez is good enough to learn from his mistakes and the Jets carry maximum confidence in being able to get back to winning ways.
First pick: 10pts N.Y Jets 4/5 (Bet365 , Totesport , Betfred , Skybet , Coral ) or -1.5pts 10/11 (generally available)
Second pick: 1pt N.Y Jets 25/1 for the Superbowl (generally), the Jets one weakness looked at the Wide Receiver position but they looked to have filled this this week by trading for Braylon Edwards from Cleveland.
