NFL preview - week 13
Well last week turned out to be an almighty disaster. Philadelphia failed to cover their handcap after inexcusably trying an onside kick on the first play of the game. This gave their opponents, the Washington Redskins, the ball on around the Philly 20 yard line, virtually spotting the 'Skins a 7 point lead to add to the 8.5 points the Eagles already had to win by.
Thoroughly disgusted, I then somehow managed to convince myself that New England were the bet of all time to defeat the undefeated Saints in the Monday night game. So I committed ever punters cardinal sin, and one that I thought I had grown out of...
Already having had a sizeable bet on the Patriots at a decent price of 13/10, I decided to weigh in again, placing the same size bet on at the now reduced odds of 23/20.... Idiotic!!
Still I had chance to get out though. The Patriots started well and led 7-3 and had the ball on the Saints 40 yard line... This was about the time I started thinking straight again and thought to myself log in to betfair quickly, lay off some of my bet and I could be sitting in a nice position with very little risk.. So I came away from my NFL stream on the computer and straight onto Betfair's site, only to see 'Betfair is currently unavailable due to important maintenence, the site will be back up and running at 11.00am'..... Aaaah.. Of course New England went on to play the worst game they have played this decade, and I was left rueing my stupidity down twice as much as I should have been!.... Whatever did we do before Betfair!
Despite all this we're still in profit on the year.. So on to this weeks tips...
Houston @ Jacksonville
Houston were the other side that let me down last week. The Texans looked as though they were cruising to victory as they held an early 17-0 lead over Indianapolis and looked certainties to hand the Colts their first loss of the season.. Houston though somehow managed to throw away the lead and end up losing the game, thus adding another hard luck story to a season littered with missed opportunties.
This week they travel to Jacksonville who have amazingly only sacked the opposing QB 10 times through 12 weeks this season. Matt Schaub and this potent Texan offense are very hard to stop if you get no pressure on the QB.
As long as Houston believe in themselves they should be able to come away from Florida with a win and their very faint hopes of making the play offs still alive.
Pick 1 - Houston 20/21 William Hill
San Francisco @ Seattle
Back in week two I correctly predicted that this match up would go under the 39.5 total points... And it did, despite RB Frank Gore breaking free for two 80yd scoring scampers. Nothing has changed for this reverse game, San Francisco play good 'D' and chew up the clock when they run the ball. While Sattle's offensive line isn't good enough to allow them to post any big numbers.
So again, under the points looks the call, especially as we get two extra points to play with.
Pick 2 - Under 41.5 Total Points (Generally available)
Dallas @ N.Y Giants
This is an absolute must win win for Big Blue if they are to stay in touch in their divisional race, a loss is also likely to leave them a couple of games behind in the Wild Card race. The Giants were woefully poor in defeat to Denver in their thanks giving game last week, but road games on thanks giving are never easy.
Dallas too have hardly been setting the world on fire though and before their thanks giving win they had only scored two TD's in nine qurters of football.
The price is the determining factor in this bet, the 5/4 for New York to win at home to beat a divisional opponent they have already beaten on their travels just looks a shade too big.
Pick 3 - N.Y Giants 5/4 Boylesports
Pick 4 (treble) - N.Y Giants 5/4, Under 41.5pts (S.fran @ Sea), 10/11 & Houston -1.5pts 10/11 Boylesports.
