Review of NFL Week 13
The Road to perfection:
The Saints and Colts kept their perfect seasons intact in Week 13, thus keeping hopes alive of a perfect Superbowl. Both teams now need to win a further 6 games each (4 regular season games each, and 2 playoff games each) to set up a grand finale of 2 unbeaten teams in the Superbowl. If you’re a believer in perfection, then bet365 are offering odds of 13/2 for the Saints or 8/1 on the Colts achieving a 19-0 season. Both teams have a very favourable schedule for the remainder of the regular season, and with home advantage looming in the playoffs, you wouldn’t bet against it, would you???If the Saints have the same luck they had this week for the remainder of the season, there’s no chance of a loss blighting their season. First of all their offense scored a defensive touchdown (hen’s tooth) when Robert Meecham stripped a Redskins player after an interception and returned it all the way to pay dirt. Then the Redskins kicker Shawn Suisham missed a 23 yard field that he would normally kick in his sleep, that would have given them a 2 score lead with under 2 minutes to play. If you make your own luck in this game, the Saints sure cooked up a big batch for themselves and mopped up every last little bit on Sunday. The Colts didn’t require any luck to beat the surging Titans, as they won in a canter. Its difficult to picture the Colts losing in the regular season this year, and I expect them to build on their record of 21 consecutive regular season wins for quite a while. Don’t sleep on the dark-horse Titans yet though, 300-1 at Boylesports to win the Superbowl is well worth a fiver.
NFC:
The big game came in the Sunday night encounter between the Cardinals and Vikings. The Cards made a mockery of their -4 handicap, beating the Vikings by 13 pts and giving a timely reminder to the rest of the conference of why they were in the Superbowl last year. Somewhat surprisingly after such a strong outing, odds are still available of 18-1 at Betfred of the Cards winning the Supoerbowl. Could be worth an each-way punt? Also chipping in with big wins were the Packers, Eagles and Giants, who will all be looking to build some late season momentum.
AFC:
The talk around the league (and in my head after I backed them both pre-season to win the Superbowl) is what has happened to the Steelers and Patriots. Both teams not only entered the season as 1 & 2 in the bookies eyes for the Superbowl, but they were vying with each other for team of the decade. Fast forward 3 months and they are both struggling to make the playoffs. Both teams suffered embarrassing losses this week, losing to the lowly Dolphins and woeful Raiders. Can they turn it around? Well the Patriots are best priced 12-1 and the Steelers a whopping 50-1 for the Superbowl. Good value, or good money after bad? That’s up for you to decide my friends…
Happy betting!
