Review of NFL week 14

The Road to perfection continues:

The Saints and Colts got through another week with their perfect records intact, much to the relief of anyone that has had a punt on either or both surviving the season unbeaten. Neither team put in a perfect performance however, as both laboured to victories over comparatively weak opposition. The Saints needed a couple of big stops late in the game to hang onto a narrow lead in Atlanta, and Payton Manning frustrated his admirers (and those that had money on him to win the MVP) by throwing 3 interceptions in a win over Denver. 3 more regular season games remain for each team. The fixtures look easy on paper, but if you’ve either had a bet, or you are contemplating making one on them remaining undefeated, be wary of injuries, tired bodies, and starters being rested down the stretch to prevent key injuries for the playoffs. Tread carefully!

NFC: The big game came in the big apple, where the Eagles got a big win versus the big blue. Why the big deal I hear you ask? Well the Eagles put up 45 pts, moved to the top of the division, and now look primed for a late season run similar to the one that saw them advance to the NFC Championship game last season. The Eagles are still available at 12-1 for the Superbowl at Coral, a price that is likely to keep shrinking. Elsewhere, Dallas’ December blues continued with a loss to the surging and impressive Chargers. With a tough run in, expect Dallas to keep with tradition and finish early for Xmas. The Packers and Vikings scored big wins, but I’m not discussing the Crads who laid an egg on Monday night and cost me a large amount of money in the process L

AFC:
The Chargers took the inside track to a first round bye with a win in Dallas and the Bengal’s loss in Minnesota. That’s 7 straight for the Chargers, and their form has been spotted by the bookies who have them as 4th favourites to win the Superbowl with a best price of 15/2 at Bet365. If they can beat their nearest rival Bengals at home next week, the first round bye is in the bag, and the Chargers are the team the Colts will least want to face in the playoffs with their recent track record against them being far less than stellar. Tennessee destroyed the Rams and received some good results elsewhere. They’ll fancy their chances and snagging the last playoff place and causing some headaches for the big boys in January. 200-1 at various bookies as things stand – well worth an e/w punt, although after the Crads debacle, maybe I’m the last person you want to listen to…???

Happy betting!
