NFL preview - Week 15
Week 15
Cincinnati @ San Diego
The team from the west coast are hot at the moment, San Diego have won their last eight games to put themselves firmly in the driving seat in the AFC West, and are currently favourites to snag the AFC 2nd seed and the all important bye in the first round of the play offs that goes with it. To be honest though I am still not completely convinced with this side, the Chargers currently rank 31st in the league running the ball and have shown they have plenty of problems stopping the run as well. Stopping the run is something that the Chargers is going to have to do this week when Cincinnati come to town. Cincinnati are the other side that are competing with the Chargers for that coveted no.2 spot in the AFC. The Bengals are like a completely different side this year, choosing to pound the ball up the middle with their running game, Cedric Benson regularly getting 25 carries a game. This is in stark contrast to spraying the ball around to their host of talented receivers like they have done in seasons past. This ball control approach has served Cincinnati well, especially as the offense is finally getting backed up from their defensive unit which has been a revelation. San Diego's inability to run the ball will put lots of pressure on Philip Rivers and the passing game, who like to take lots of shots down the field. I feel that Cincinnati's 'D', which has two former first round draft picks playing corner, should be able to cope with San Diego's deep threat and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Rivers throw multiple interceptions. The Bengals, who continue to be under estimated, look over priced at 13/5 with Sky Bet to win the match, and the 7 points they receive with Boylesports also looks good value.
Pick 1: Cincinnati +7 10/11 (Boylesports), & Cincinnati 13/5 (Skybet)
New England @ Buffalo
Ever since Head coach Bill Belicheck took the dubious decision to go for a fourth and 2 in his own half when leading the game against the Indianapolis Colts (consequently losing the game), the New England Patriots have looked a team in disarray. They were truly awful in their Monday Night loss to New Orleans the following week and have lost another fourth quarter lead against their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins since. Unusually for the Patriots as well, there appears to be some unrest in the camp. Linebacker, Adelieus Thomas, was dropped from the starting line up last week following his comments after being sent home for turning up late for practice.. And star receiver, Randy Moss, was also caught looking less than impressed after QB Tom Brady gave him a lecture for quitting on a play resulting in an interception for Brady.
Until they can prove otherwise the Pats cannot be trusted at the moment, especially giving 7 points to a Buffalo who should have beaten the Pats in New England in the first week of the season.
Pick 2: Buffalo +7 10/11 (Generally Available), & Buffalo 14/5 (Ladbrokes & Paddy Power)
Chicago @ Baltimore
There seem to have been more than usual double digit favourites just recently, this probably being down to the number of bad sides in the league this year.. Chicago though are one of the better sides who won't be making a trip to the play offs. This match will definately not be easy for Bears as Baltimore have been consisent all year. And Baltimore are coming off their biggest win of the season against the woeful Lions, but if Chicago QB, Jay Cutler, can limit his mistakes then the Bears are certainly good enough to stay within 11 of the Ravens. And who knows they might just pull off the shock of the week and win in Baltimore!
Pick 3: Chicago +11 (Generally Available), & Chicago 5/1 (Ladbrokes)
All above selections 8 Trebles (Ladbrokes)
