Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire inside's delightful.... a horrible weekend of weather decimated the sporting calendar, most of the lower league football was called off and plenty of horse racing fell victim to the snowy conditions.

The horse racing at Haydock Park on Saturday was controversially called off; having passed a morning inspection jockeys and trainers alike bemoaned the frozen condition of the track.  Another inspection was forced and racing eventually called off at noon.  Bigtips.co.uk had picked out Forty Five in 13:50 race, running at 10/1 with Boylesports - keep your eyes on this horse for its next run out.

Onto the football and it was a strange weekend of results in the Premiership, Fergie’s face got a little bit redder as United lost out to Fulham (pre match odds of 5/1) and Liverpool kept up their charge to mid-table with a comfortable loss at Portsmouth (pre match odds 9/2).  Lots of pantomime fun at the City of Manchester stadium, with Mark Hughes failing to hear the shouts of “he’s behind you!” as Roberto Mancini stole his job, Bolton’s Gary Megson is now the next favourite to leave the managerial merry-go-round at 11/4 with Skybet.

Super Sunday didn’t deliver too much excitement with a rested Wolves side beating Burnley 2-0, continuing Burnley’s Jekyll and Hyde season – they have only lost one home game, but their away record reads played nine, lost eight!  Chelsea – West Ham was the second live game and Carlo Ancelotti’s men were unable claim the victory that would’ve pushed them six points clear.  Special mention to Frank Lampard who had to re-take a penalty three times, scoring each time.

Finally onto the cricket, where England did their best to lose the first test but ended up drawing.  They were cruising at 169-3 at tea time, but Kevin Pietersen decided to liven things up by running himself out whilst on 81 – he’s still 6/4 on to be England’s best batsmen in the series with Coral.  England then suffered a massive collapse, Ian Bell clearly not a fan of the hot sun – he appeared very keen to get back in the pavilion.  England managed to cling on to the draw, bringing back memories of the first test of this summer’s Ashes in Cardiff.  Although South Africa remains firm favourites to win the series at 4/5 on with Blue SQ or 888sport.
