Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 3

Whatever I said, whatever I did, I didn’t mean it, I just want you back for good…. That’s right; sport is back with a bang.  The big thaw has started and the snow is finally disappearing.  Despite a few abandonments there was plenty of horse racing in action this weekend.

National hunt racing returned to Kempton and one of the most impressive horses of the day was Mad Max in the williamhill.com - Play Poker Novices' Chase, on his debut over fences he romped home to continue trainer Nicky Henderson’s fantastic form at the course.

Also at Kempton, BigTips.co.uk picked out Duc de Regniere in the feature williamhill.com Lanzarote Hurdle – the horse was advised at 9/1 with Ladbrokes and was backed in heavily to start off at 9/2 – he didn’t manage to win the race as he was beaten by Michael Flips, but finished a useful second.  A minor victory there then for BigTips followers, but celebrations were soon stepped up with a winner in the Betdaq handicap at Lingfield Park – Bridge of Gold romping home at a best odds price of 6/1 – high fives all round.

Onto the weekends football and Chelsea proved to be a headline writer’s dream by scoring seven goals at home to Sunderland, a sevenly display by the Blues.  Best betting wise there was a healthy draw at White Hart Lane, where Harry Redknapp took time out from doing his tax return to manage Tottenham to a 0-0 draw with Hull City – Best odds pre-match of 9/2 for that one.

Super Sunday did not really manage to live up to its name, with another 0-0 at Villa Park (pre-match odds of 5/2) – BigTips are hoping that Villa are saving themselves for the second leg of the Carling Cup semi finals on Wednesday evening (don’t forget we tipped them at 18/1 each way so are due for a very healthy return should they get to the final).  Arsenal beat Bolton 2-0 in the other live game, with Cesc Fabregas putting in another great show to bring Arsenal’s title odds down to 4/1 with Boylesports.

I almost don’t want to talk about the cricket, but England managed to produce not one but two woeful batting displays to lose by an innings and 74 runs.  Despite coming away with a draw in the series there are still some big question marks over the team.  They travel next to Bangladesh in late February for a two match test series and some one dayers – Captain Andrew Strauss and main bowler Jimmy Anderson will both be rested for that one though.

Finally, the Africa Cup of Nations rumbles on in the group stages, Egypt looking pretty decent so far with two good wins.  Cameroon almost blew their chances last night, having lost to Gabon in the first game; they were trailing to Zambia for most of the game but managed to come up with a 3-2 win in the end.  Ivory Coast is still the heavy favourites to win it – 15/8 with Bet365.
