NFL Pro Bowl Preview
Pro Bowl
AFC v NFC
A few years back I would have thought that the Pro Bowl would not have been a viable betting propostion. Until watching one of the games, my thoughts were that this game would be played with very little tackling, with the onus being on scoring alot of points but keeping the game close for the spectators watching it.. But, after Sky starting showing the Pro Bowl recently I have slightly changed my opinion. Now don't get me wrong this game isn't taken wholly seriously, and there are one or two strange rules, including not being able to blitz, but the two teams definately do want to win. That will surely be the case this year with the Pro Bowl taking up it's new slot. Taking place a week prior to the Super Bowl in the same venue, Miami's Sun Life Stadium, this years game is a sell out.
The fact that teams are not allowed to blitz means the emphasis is on accurate QB's that will be able to pick out their receivers in crowded coverages. Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans proved himself amongst the elite this year when he led the league in passing yards and he will start for the AFC, but he will share time with Vince Young (Tennessee) and David Garrard (Jacksonville), who both are definately not amongst the most accurate passers out their. For the NFC, their starter will be Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay), who I believe will be the best QB in the league in years to come. His back ups are Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia) and Tony Romo (Dallas), both of whom are proven infinitely better with time and both look a cut above the AFC's back ups.
The NFC, -2pts 10/11 (Stan James & William Hill), have won the Pro Bowl three out of the last four years winning by 9,12 and 6pts respectively and I expect them to win again this year.
Recommendation - 2pts NFC (-2pts 10/11, Stan James & William Hill)
(Beware - The -2pt handicap is slightly more concerning than normal for this game because if a converted TD ties the game up late in the game expect the Head coach to forfeit the chance to actually tie the game up with extra point, they will go for a 2 point try which would either win or lose the game right there. So there is a very real possibilty that this game could be won by a solitary point. But at the better price you get it's worth taking the risk.)
Super Bowl XLV
The reason I think I have remained so enamoured with the sport of American Football throughout the years is probably down to the fact the season is so short. With the regular season only lasting 17 weeks and the Play Offs over in a month, then this leaves the bigger part of a year with no U.S Footy. Add to this that even throughout the majority of the season all the games take place on just two days, a Sunday, and a Monday. Then you can understand why the typical American Football fan is left yearning for more.
I think the format is fantastic, much better than our own football which I believe is suffering from over kill. In our own football there are too many so called 'big matches' being televised these days spanning numerous competitions.. The result being, rather than yearn for the next big game you feel yourself getting rather fed up with all the media hype surrounding the games and probably not watching.
Well, back to American Football and I am definately already eagerly anticipating the start of the next season (even though this one isn't over yet!!), and have priced up what I think the odds should look like for Super Bowl XLV for you to peruse below... And now to mull over the plethora of bets available for this years Super Bowl, to see if there is any value hidden away.
