Ben Herd on training banter, directors and John Terry!

Well, it's not been a great week as far as results have gone for us down here at Aldershot.  We played a very average Barnet team on Saturday and came off the pitch losing 3-0 in what I believe was a score-line that flattered them considerably. If we had possibly taken some of our earlier chances the game would have perhaps looked a little different.  One thing the manager and Gary Owers have introduced in training is the yellow away shirt.  Let me explain, on a Thursday the gaffer or Gary nominate 3 captains to pick sides, then we have a few competitions involving keep ball, crossing and finishing, shooting and finally six a side games.  The losing team of the morning then faces having the other two teams nominate in their opinion, who was the worst player in that losing team.  The worst player then has to wear the yellow shirt for the whole of the following week with "I am Shite" written on the back!  Thankfully, I haven't been given the yellow shirt yet but there have been a couple of lads who have been lucky to escape it!

The yellow shirt idea is not a new one on the training field but wouldn't it be good if you took away all the PC out of the work place and introduced the "I am shite" award for the week, just a thought!  I tell you what there would be a few people in boardrooms wearing one. How is it clubs are being served winding up orders?  West Ham, Pompey, Cardiff, Notts County, Southend and Chester have all been in the media spotlight regarding their finances over the past week.  Surely a governing body should scrutinise club's finances more vigorously because I don't think it will be too long before a Premier League team goes bust.  As players it is an obvious worry if the club you are playing for is in dire straights financially. We are doing a job as well and especially down in the lower leagues we still have mortgages and bills to pay at the end of the month just like most hard working people.  I have to take my hat off to the Chester players who have gone 3 months without being paid and fortunately I have never been in a position where I have not been paid on time let alone not being paid at all!  I know one thing is for sure I wouldn't have waited 3 months before I decided to draw the line and not play so fair play to them for showing the patience of a saint!

One player that doesn't need to wear a yellow bib at the moment to attract attention is John Terry. Enough has been written on this and I am not going to get into "team Bridge" or "team Terry".  Regardless of anyone’s point of view on JT's antics, it is only a matter of time before fans and even players start stooping to new lows in some form of banter to England's ex-skipper.  To be fair it isn't that bad down in League 2 for personal insults although one that did make me laugh the other week was Grimsby's Peter Sweeney. We had exchanged a few verbals as you do, only for him then to say "come back to me when you have got some cash".  Sorry Peter, but I didn't realise you had played for Real Madrid and earnt loads of dough!  Muppet!  One funny or harsh, depending on how you see it story I heard was a team playing a pre-season game, and one of the players had said to another "I slept with your missus"- or words to those affect, only for him to then tell the player that she works in the hotel where he had stayed with the team the previous night!  If that wasn't bad enough it wasn't just the one player that received "room service" so to speak, talk about scandalous!
