Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 8
There were still plenty of horse racing meets to enjoy with some big cards at Ascot and Haydock to get involved with. All eyes were on the Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase, as BigTips picked out Monet’s Garden as the horse to back and the Irish grey didn’t disappoint, romping home for a 5 length victory at an SP of 11/2 – BigTips followers enjoyed the early price of 7/1. The day couldn’t get much better than that – or could it? Our focus switched to Haydock and the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle where Fredo stormed home to record the second BigTips winner of the day, having been advised as an each way bet at 6/1.
Onto the football on Saturday and there were some interesting clashes at both ends of the table. The big news occurred in the early kick off, where Everton who had a terrible record against Manchester United going into the game and were as long as 4/1 pre-match to win. An early goal for Andy Garcia lookalike and general all round miserable guy Dimitar Berbatov didn’t do anything to dispel the pre-match predictions; however Everton staged a grand comeback with goals from Bilyaletdinov, Gosling and Rodwell as the blues won 3-1. Chelsea were able to take full advantage by putting their behaviour troubles to one side as they beat Wolves 2-0 and stretch their lead to 4 points at the top, Chelsea title odds have shortened even further to a miserly 3/5 on with Bwin.
Super Sunday bought a glut of games and the focus was on the race for fourth place, it really is up for grabs this season, although Man City and Liverpool did little to suggest that they are teams of real quality as they fought out a drab 0-0 draw at Eastlands – described by most pundits as the worst game of the season by quite a margin. Elsewhere Aston Villa beat Burnley 5-2, Emile Heskey powering home his third league goal of the campaign – the man is a machine! Tottenham did their chances no harm with a 3-0 beating of Wigan on a pudding of a pitch. Odds wise Man City are the bookies favourite to grab that fourth sport, 2/1 with William Hill.
Finally there was some cricket action this weekend to keep us interested. England played Pakistan in a two match Twenty20 mini-series, captained by Paul Collingwood; they made a decent fist of it with a win on Friday and then a narrow defeat in the Saturday game, leaving the series tied at 1-1 – Not a bad effort against the World Champions. England now move onto Bangladesh for a three match one day series and two test matches – Captain Andrew Strauss will no doubt be watching from afar with his feet up!
