Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 9
The weekend’s racing was fairly quiet, BigTips picked out Shammick Boy in Shangri-la Dubai Standard Open Nh Flat Race at Kempton and saw the Irish horse come very close to victory, in the end it ran in a very close second. Sunday’s big race was the Newlands Chase at Leopardstown – where Tranquil Sea ran a very impressive race to romp home beating a Tom Segal pick in the process to win at odds of 4/6 on, his odds for the Ryanair chase at Cheltenham were subsequently chopped by Stan James to 5/1.
Onto the football and it was an incident packed weekend, the big game saw Man City travel to Chelsea and they were in no mood to shake anyone’s hand after the result. Mancini’s boys panning the league leaders 4-2 on their own patch, Craig Bellamy – who is always impressive when his mouth is shut, scoring two goals. A fiery affair was made all the more interesting by Wayne Bridge’s refusal to shake John Terry’s hand – you stick to your guns Wayne! The other big Saturday game was Arsenal travelling to Stoke, with the gunners in with a big shout of re-entering the title race. They did indeed carve out a 3-1 victory, but it came at a price, young Aaron Ramsey suffering a horrible leg break after a tackle by Ryan Shawcross – who left the field in tears – he wasn’t the only one crying – the injury put me right off my Prime ribs!
Sunday was all about the Carling Cup final, and regular BigTips fans will have been cheering on Aston Villa as they were an antepost pick at 18/1 each way for our loyal fans. Sadly they couldn’t come up with the goods, as goals from Rooney and Owen saw United pick up the first piece of silverware this season, while BigTips followers still retained a healthy profit, thanks to a cover bet. Odds wise, the title has been blown open, Chelsea have drifted out to 6/4 with Coral and Man United have tightened to a similar price. Arsenal are the big movers, coming in to 11/4 with Ladbrokes – and they have a decent looking run-in.
Finally onto a USA sports round up, there has been big focus on the Winter Olympics here with USA doing so well in the medals table – however the Canadians enjoyed the big victory in the men’s hockey final, winning in overtime 3-2. Basketball is really dominating the TV schedules at the moment, with the NFL finished and Baseball not due to start again until April. Dwayne Wade is the main man here in Miami, playing for the Heat and he is a massive 15/1 with Betfair to win the season MVP award and if my knowledge of Basketball is anything to go by, I would leave that advice well alone!
