Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 10

You know I can't smile without you, I can't smile without you, I can't laugh and I can't sing, I'm finding it hard to do anything…  Another weekend of sport flashes by and there was action all the way, BigTips Bobby took a trip to Doncaster racecourse and enjoyed a great day out whilst the Premier League and FA Cup continued their race towards conclusion.  BigTips delivered a sensational nineteen point weekend to keep everybody happy and give all our banks a boost before the Cheltenham festival.

Saturday’s horseracing was all about Doncaster, there were seven Grand National entrants running in the Sportingbet.com Grimthorpe Handicap Chase and with £55K to the winner it was sure to attract some quality horses.  BigTips picked out 16/1 shot Killyglen which gave a great race and was unlucky not to win, eventually finishing in second place to 5/1 Wogan – who incidentally wasn’t wearing a toupee.  Never fear BigTips came up with the goods with our second selection of the day, Wheels Up romping home in the Crazy Larry's Supporting Greatwood Novices' Handicap Chase at Newbury to bag us another six points profit – a great weekend’s horse racing!

Onto Saturday’s football and there were some muted games in the Premier League, Arsenal – who were still in shock after Aaron Ramsey’s leg fell off – beat Burnley 3-1 to put themselves temporarily top.  It was left to a wiley old ginger – as Paul Scholes fired home his 100th league goal to give Manchester United a 1-0 win at the Molineux and send Fergie’s men (not the black eyed peas) back to the summit.  In the FA Cup, it was the quarter final stage and Portsmouth continued to defy their critics and carve out a 2-0 win at home to Birmingham, while a rare match up of two English managers, Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp saw a nil all draw.

The action on Sunday brought us a mix of FA Cup and Premier League, Reading look set to create another big cup shock at one stage, 2-0 up against Aston Villa, however a great second half comeback saw them run out 4-2 winners.  While Chelsea beat Stoke 2-0 in the other game, a certain John Terry taking time out from being dad of the year to score a goal.  The semi final draw paired Chelsea with Villa and Fulham/Tottenham with Portsmouth.  Odds wise Chelsea are the solid favourites at 11/10 with Skybet with Spurs at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.  In the only Premier League game of the day, Everton thrashed Hull 5-1 with Mikel Arteta on great form – “City’s away Hull continues”.

Finally onto the cricket and England beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the one day series with yet another South African Craig Kieswetter recording his first one day hundred.  England are playing a warm up game at the moment against Bangladesh A team in preparation for the first test which begins on Friday – plenty of selection posers for England – the main one being Kevin Pietersen (see what I did there?)  - he appears to have forgotten what his bat is for – however somewhat unbelievably he is still the bookmakers favourite to be top scorer for England in the series at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
