Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 13
Saturday’s racing action had a couple of high quality races at Doncaster but our first focus is at Newbury in the E.b.f. Mares' 'national Hunt' Novices' Hurdle Final at 14:15 – A class one race with £40K prize money. BigTips.co.uk picked out a cheeky each way bet of Miss Overdrive at 40/1 and sure enough it did the business and finished fourth to offer a very decent return! The other big race of the weekend was at Meydan – the Dubai world cup – the impressive looking track hosting a big, big race. In the end it was won by Gloria De Campeao – a 16/1 Brazilian outsider.
Saturday’s football action had some crucial games at either end of the table, Chelsea offered a big thrashing to the increasingly vulnerable looking Aston Villa – chubby Frank Lampard walloping home four goals in a 7-1 win – should make for an interesting re-match in the FA Cup Semi final. Elsewhere, baldy Wayne Rooney was rested but Man United continued their charge with a 4-0 win at Bolton. Sadly for Arsenal it was not to be their day, as clanger keeper Manuel Almunia dropped another one and conceded an equaliser in the last minute – Kevin Philips scoring with his face. Man United still odds on favourites to win the title – 17/20 with Sporting Bet – the best you’ll get – Arsenal have drifted back out to 6/1 with Coral.
What about the other end of the table I hear you cry! West Ham look increasingly doomed – Ricardo Fuller scoring a great goal to condemn them to a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke – Gianfranco Zola immediately flew home to Italy for some comfort from his mum. Portsmouth are still turning up for games, but lost 2-0 to Spurs, while ugly Iain Dowie saw his new Hull side win 2-0 at home to Fulham – to really put the pressure on. Odds wise you can’t bet on Portsmouth anymore, but Burnley are nailed on at 1/14 with Blue SQ – West Ham and Hull are both 6/5 with Paddy Power though – it’s that close!
Super Sunday was not really that super, featuring Blackburn beating Burnley 1-0 at Burnley – no doubt there was trouble out side the ground – that many whippets tied up at once, there was always going to be bother. In the late game, Liverpool beat Sunderland 3-0 to keep up their hopes of sneaking into fourth place. As I say, not really that super….
Finally onto the cricket and England are having a bit of rest – or if you’re Andrew Strauss you’re having a rest on top of your rest – they don’t play again until May. Never fear though, the IPL is steaming on and England players Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Paul Collingwood (Delhi Daredevils), have joined up with their teams. The Mumbai Indians continue to lead the way, topping the table currently having beaten last year’s winners the Deccan Chargers last night. Mumbai’s odds have been chopped to 9/4 with Betfred, while Pietersen’s Royal Challengers are 7/2 with Boylesports.
