Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 – week 15

This is it, Oh This time I know it's the real thing, I can't explain what I'm feeling, I'm lost for words, I'm in a daze, Stunned and amazed, By your open ways…..It was all about one race and one race only this weekend, but aside from that there was plenty of other sporting action, as the Premier League had an interesting weekend, throw in the FA Cup and a dash of cricket and you’ve got it all.  Also, I’ve been watching the baseball – anyone else?  Anyone?

Naturally the last couple of weeks have been building up to the Grand National and what a fantastic few days racing it was at Aintree.  BigTips even stretched our budget and sent a couple of representatives to the course on Grand National to get involved in the action – sadly for this correspondent I wasn’t one of them.  However the great race did not let us down and with nearly one million pounds on the table in prize money, there was plenty to play for.  In the end it was Tony McCoy and Don’t Push It, who won the big prize and sheer delight for the jockey – who later got done by police for talking on his mobile whilst driving – lock him up!

Onto the Saturday’s football and it was a quiet day’s action in the Premiership, however Burnley stunned Hull in the battle of the worst-managerial appointments of the season – Brian Laws laughing in everyone’s face with a 4-1 win.  West Ham managed to sneak a 1-0 win over Sunderland to keep their hopes of staying up alive, a bad weekend for Hull, all in all.  The FA cup semi-finals were upon us with the FA continuing to rinse all fans by staging them at Wembley, it was Chelsea who celebrated the win, powering past Villa 3-0 – their odds of winning the cup are now a mere 1/7 on with Bet365.

Sunday brought us some nil-nils in the Premier league, with a bad one for Manchester United, failing to get past Blackburn and thus handing a further initiative to Chelsea in the title race.  Chelsea’s title odds are now 3/10 with Bet365 – but similar to their cup odds!  Elsewhere, never buy a used car from Rafa Benitez as he went back on his earlier guarantee of a top four finish for Liverpool after their 0-0 with Fulham, the man can’t be trusted!  The big shock of the day was Portsmouth’s 2-0 win over the not-so-mighty Spurs – helped by a couple of dubious refereeing decisions, it was a great win for Pompey who were 7/1 to get through pre-match.

Finally onto other sports and in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians are still chugging along nicely and are now 3.25 on Betfair to win the whole thing, next best are the Delhi Daredevils who are 4.2.  Kevin Pietersen can’t even get a game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the moment – what a waste of money!   There is about ten days before the start of the semi-finals for the IPL so plenty of time to get watching and get involved.
