Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 - week 19
The weekend’s horse racing featured the Victoria cup at Ascot, with 85,000 pounds on the table for the winner and 29 runners it promised to be a sensational race. The eventual runner was 16/1 shot Dandy Boy, who led for the last 100 yards to claim the prize. Elsewhere BigTips continued what is turning out to be a very profitable month for our supporters with a second place in the 14:10 at Lingfield, advised to our fans at 5/1 with Bet365.
Saturday’s football action of course had no Premiership action, but there was plenty of drama as football league’s one and two came to a close. In League one it was a big day for Leeds as they managed to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 to secure an automatic return to the Championship. In League Two, Grimsby failed to beat the drop and their fans got angry – eating fish is obviously bad for the temper.
Sunday was the big day, although there was only really one issue at stake – who would claim the title? Unless you’ve been living under a rock you will know that Chelsea smashed Wigan 8-0 to win the title – despite Drogba’s hissy fit, he also managed to win the golden boot. Man Utd then academically beat Stoke 4-0 with Wayne Rooney limping off to the sound of millions of England fans whimpering into their pints. A big day of celebration for Chelsea and it’s bye bye to Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley. You can already bet on the destination of the title for next season, with Chelsea priced up as favourites at 15/8 with Skybet, Man Utd are close behind at 2s. If you’re feeling flush or just mental, you can bet on Newcastle winning the league at 2000/1 also with Skybet.
Finally onto bat-and-ball sports, in the cricket we have entered the World 20/20s – in my day it was a horrible drink that tramps enjoyed, these days it’s a cricket tournament. We’re into the Super Eights stage and the Betfair favourite is Australia – England are in with a decent shout though, providing Kevin Pietersen gets back from watching his wife give birth. Onto the baseball and I know thousands of you out there are keenly awaiting my updates on this one, my team the Florida Marlins are playing terribly at the moment, with a 14-17 record – sort it out! The surprise package in all the leagues are the Tampa Bay Rays who have the best record with a 22-9. Stay tuned for more exciting insight next week.
