Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 - week 21

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day, When it's cold outside I've got the month of May, I guess you'd say, What can make me feel this way?  That’s right sports fans after a week of sun was enjoyed by the whole country, we’ll look back on a weekend of sporting action that included two big football finals and some excellent horse racing.

The focus of Saturday’s horse racing action was one massive BigTip, in the Racing UK 6th Birthday handicap at Goodwood – we tipped up Moynahan at 7/1 with Coral – we advised 2pts each way and lo and behold it romped home to give our Saturday punters the perfect boost.  Elsewhere there was some quality racing at York where in the Stowe Family Law Llp Grand Cup Class 1 race – Tactic stormed home at a very healthy 10/1.

Onto the football and the season continues to come to a close with two big games on Saturday, first up was Blackpool versus Cardiff at Wembley in a game billed as being worth £90 million.  Donkeys everywhere were celebrating (not you Geoff Horsfield) as Blackpool won a thriller 3-2 thanks to a Brett Omerod winner, sending them and their manager Ian Holloway into the Premiership.  I predict I will be sick of his “hilarious” media comments by the second week of the season.  Blackpool are 4/11 to get relegated with Betfred.

The other big Saturday game was of course the Champions League Final – or if you’re old school (or just normal) – it’s the European Cup Final.  José Mourinho’s Inter Milan took on and beat the Germans (my granddad would’ve been pleased), as Louis Van Gaal’s Bayern Munich failed to get past Jose’s tactics bus, Inter Milan completing the treble and winning 2-0.  It does however look very much like Mr Mourinho will say goodbye to Italy and head to Spain to take on the Real Madrid job.

A quick World Cup round-up now, as frankly with the football season proper about to finish, I am running out of things to write about.  But never fear with a mere 18 days until kick off, the world is about to go football crazy – anyone else completely sick of the adverts yet?  Having said that there is one advert I do love: Sony Advert – mainly for the emotional soundtrack.  But anyway, the World Cup – who’s going to win?  Spain are the current favourites at 4/1 with Bet365.

Lastly and leastly, there is no cricket news this week as the England team are still celebrating winning the World 20/20 – however the test series against Bangladesh starts on Thursday – no more lie-ins for Andrew Strauss.  Betting wise the England captain is 7/2 with Paddy Power to be the top England batsman in the series.  In baseball news the Florida Marlins are still very hit and miss but the New York Yankees (current World series holders) have lost their last two games – only another 130 games to go in the season!
