Professional footballer Ben Herd's end of season write up

It is with great disappointment that this is my last blog of the season.  Losing to Rotherham last week in the play-offs is the most disappointed I have been after a football match and that includes losing two play-off finals.  The first game at home to Rotherham was a very 'bitty' sort of game with neither team really settling down and being composed enough to take the chances that were on offer.  I still feel that we tried to get the ball down and play a bit more than our opponents, who were quite happy larruping it up field and feeding off our mistakes.  Fair play to them because that is pretty much how they won the game, although I have to say that their two centre halves, Fenton and Sharps were absolutely magnificent for them.  At the end of each season I do mentally summarise how the season has panned out; I would say that it has been the most enjoyable and relaxed season that I have had so far in my career.  When I pitched up on the 13th of July 2009 at Aldershot Town, I would never have imagined that we would reach the play-offs and from a personal point of view, win Player's player of the year and Supporters player of the year, so, I suppose I should see it as a successful season but I really feel that with the squad we had it is definitely a missed opportunity and I am left wondering whether I will ever get out of this bloody division!!

One person who can seemingly do no wrong is Jose Mourinho, even when he states that he will probably be leaving for Real Madrid, something I predicted a few months back.  He was even bold enough to state that the Champions League final was actually a bigger game than the World Cup final, well he would wouldn't he!  'The special Juan' as he is now being called, has really changed the face of football managers.  I love how arrogant and self righteous he is, I have no doubt that he unifies his team with a 'it's the rest of the world against us' mentality.  His style of football, to my mind, isn't the prettiest or most fluent, but you have to say that it is bloody effective.  Will Real Madrid be happy with his more robust approach to the beautiful game rather than the sexy, silky style that 'Los Merengues' crave? Remember Vicente Del Bosque won the Champions League twice and the La Liga in three years and was still sacked.  Whatever happens at the 'Santiago Bernabeu' next season you can guarantee 'The special Juan' will have the last word!

Finally as the season draws to a close BigTips pose a few questions to Aldershot Town's player of the season:

Which game did you most enjoy playing in this season?

The diplomat in me will say any game other than the win at home to Shrewsbury but I’m not a politician so I would have to say that game.

What was your least favourite game?

Silly question really Rotherham in the play-offs – I’m still getting over it!

Which player most impressed you in League Two this season?

Craig Dawson, definitely will play at a lot higher than Rochdale.

And now get your crystal ball out...
Who will win the World Cup?

I have a sneaky feeling for Portugal, at about 28/1, well worth a few quid.

Finally a tricky one - who will win League Two next season?

Aldershot!!!!
