Bigtips.co.uk weekend sports round up – 2010 - week 23

We’re on our way, We are Ron’s twenty-two, Hear the roar, Of the red, white and blue, This time, more than any other time, this time, We’re going to find a way, Find a way to get away, This time, getting it all together. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w3_PZh0IR4&feature=related) … No English man can fail to be inspired by such an anthem and with the World Cup just days away, we here at Bigtips Towers can barely contain our excitement as we bring you a review of the week’s sporting action.

The weekend’s horse racing action was all about one race, it was of course The Derby at Epsom, with over a million pounds in prize money at stake – races don’t get much bigger.  In the end the race was won by the impressive Workforce who won by seven lengths and broke the track record in the process.  In other Epsom action in the Oaks the day before, BigTips gave a great antepost tip Meeznah – tipped up ten days ago at 50/1 – it was leading for much of the end of the race but sadly couldn’t hold on, but a second place gave a great return for our followers.

Onto the weekend’s football action and frankly there wasn’t much, unless you count World Cup warm up matches and to be honest I don’t.  However there is plenty of World Cup preview going on (that’s right a preview in a review), in terms of betting the money is still going on Spain (9/2 with Coral) and Brazil (19/4 with Bwin), not sure I’ll be betting on either of those two.  In the top scorer market David Villa leads the way, best odds of 8/1 with Ladbrokes.  The competition is just days away now and the excitement continues to build.

Onto other sports now and the English cricketers wrapped up a comprehensive and expected victory against Bangladesh, winning the series 2-0 and asking the question of what exactly the point of playing them is.  A little bit of a break from test cricket now, as England focus on One Day internationals with an upcoming series against Australia and then Bangladesh before resuming test duties against Pakistan.  Not really sure of the point of one day cricket now, it has none of the excitement of 20/20 and none of the longevity of a test match – get rid of it I say!  Odds wise Australia are heavy favourites to win the one day series against England, at 8/15 with Stan James.
