BigTips.co.uk World Cup betting advice Part Two
All of our Silver, Gold and World Cup subscribers received analysis of our antepost bets this summer. This analysis is reproduced below and on this occasion we were bang on the money, though it was close - BigTips are now life-long fans of Ayegbeni Yakubu!!
Group B 'to qualify' market
Group B consists of Argentina, Nigeria, Greece and South Korea. Some of the most fascinating stories of the tournament will no doubt centre around Argentina and in particular, Diego Maradona. On the pitch Argentina have some of the best footballing talent in the world at their disposal but that said we're not a big fan of the managerial skills of El Diego.
We don't fancy their outright chances at this World Cup (at their current odds of 7/1), they struggled to qualify and Maradona is likely to implode at some point given the pressure cooker situation of a World Cup, cooped up with his players - that he's never afraid to openly criticise.
Whilst we don't rate Argentina's outright chances we'd be very surprised to see them fail to qualify from top spot from Group B. It is the battle for second place where we think we've found a decent bet. South Korea have performed well recently, winning 6 of their last 8 matches, including an away win against Japan last week. They were unbeaten in qualifying and also racked up some decent performances in recent friendlies (last night's game against Belarus apart!)
As co-hosts they reached the semi-finals six years ago and historically have been Asia's top perfomers. While they may struggle to match that achievement we believe they have enough to finish above Nigeria and Greece in Group B. Nigeria are serial under-performers at the World Cup and the noises coming out of their camp suggest there's some disorganisation there, along with a few unhappy 'star' names.
Greece appear to be very much a declining force in world football since their European Championships win in 2006. We rate their forward Theofanis Gekas but otherwise it's hard to find much to like about the current Greek side (apologies to our Greek subscribers!) Incidentally, Gekas was top scorer across all countries during qualifying and played the whole of last season in Germany using the World Cup match ball. would be a decent bet for the golden boot but for the fact that we think they will struggle to reach the knock out stages.
Overall, at the prices currently available, South Korea look to be a good value bet to qualify from Group B.
Recommendation: 5pts South Korea to qualify from Group B @ 11/4 with Boylesports (or currently 3.90 on betfair at the time of writing).
