BigTips.co.uk World Cup Outright Advice
All of our Silver, Gold and World Cup subscribers received analysis of our antepost bets this summer. Part Six of this analysis is reproduced below.
We came close to landing the outright winner but in the end had to settle for a decent each way return on our 14/1 bet.
Holland had a relatively easy qualification but came through their group in great style as their record of played 8, won 8, scored 17, conceded 2, shows. Whilst they were only up against Norway, Scotland, Iceland and Macedonia they will go into World Cup 2010 in great confidence. Their opponents in Group E should also not cause too many problems. The Dutch face Japan, Cameroon and Denmark in what on paper looks one of the weakest groups.
The outright market has Spain as favourites at a best priced 4/1, followed closely by Brazil at 5/1. After that pair it’s England 6/1, Argentina 8/1, Holland 14/1, Germany 14/1, Italy 14/1, France 18/1, 30/1 Bar.
The obvious dangers in the tournament are Spain and Brazil however both are skinny enough in the market to avoid. Of the other main contenders, England are once again poor value and whilst at last they have a decent manager, their chances are over-exaggerated. Argentina have easily the best player in the world, however are managed by possibly the worst manager in the competition. Germany should be there or thereabouts and as we saw in 2006 the Italians can rise to the big occasion. At a big price Serbia (80/1) are interesting, certainly when you compare their odds to those of France (18/1) who Serbia qualified above of. One final thought on those prices; are England really twice as likely to win the World Cup as Holland!?
At the very least Holland should qualify from their group, they are largely the same group of players who played so well at Euro 2008 and the experience gained there could help propel them further in this year’s competition.
Overall, Holland look a good value each way bet at 14/1.
Recommendation: Holland to win the World Cup 1.5pts each way @ 14/1 with William Hill
