Bigtips.co.uk Football Preview – Fri 25th Nov
The early game comes from the Britannia Stadium as a fairly crucial clash between two struggling teams take place. Blackburn are second from bottom of the table and have yet to win away from home this season, manager Steve Kean is under immense pressure from the fans who feel he is the wrong man for the job. Stoke are in 14th position in the table just three points from the relegation zone and can certainly be marked as underachievers this season – they have found it difficult with a heavy European campaign to contend with. Their home record is mixed, with two wins, two draws and two defeats; they have only managed to score seven goals in those six home games. Blackburn have one of the most porous back-lines in the league, having conceded 27 goals across their twelve Premier League fixtures so far. Difficult to see a Blackburn win here despite Stoke’s indifferent form, the away side are 15/4 with Stan James. Back Jonathan Walters to score first at 13/2 with Blue SQ.
Chelsea v Wolverhampton
Stamford Bridge hosts a fixture that has taken on a lot more significance for the home side than they would’ve liked – Chelsea are reaching crisis point after defeat at home to Liverpool last Sunday and another loss in the Champions League in midweek. Manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking like a man under pressure and with owner Roman Abramovich not a man known for his patience in these situations, a defeat here could spell the end. It is a game in truth that the home side should easily win, but with their fragile confidence there could be a chance for a Wolves team who are not exactly flying themselves. Standing only two points and one place above the relegation zone, Mick McCarthy’s team have been brought right down to earth after their excellent start to the season. Their away form shows one win from six games and they must be expecting the worst here. Wolves are a massive 14/1 with Bet365 to win here, back Daniel Sturridge to score first at 4/1 with Ladbrokes.
Man Utd v Newcastle
An interesting match-up at Old Trafford sees another tough game for Alan Pardew’s Newcastle who suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend at Man City. It has not all gone Man Utd’s way so far this season as they struggle to dominant the Champions League group stage and they are still five points behind City in the race for the title. Despite that home defeat by City – Utd’s home record reads won five, lost one and that remains the only game they have lost in the league this season. Newcastle’s away record is pretty good and they will be hoping to grab something from this game to try and cling onto fourth spot. It is 39 years since the Toon army were victorious at Old Trafford and they will hope that their tough defence backs them to victory here. The draw is a possible here with a decent price of 4/1 with Boylesports. Javier Hernandez is yet to score a home league goal so back him at 15/4 with Bet365 to be the first goalscorer.
Arsenal v Fulham
Saturday’s late game sees a resurgent Arsenal take on struggling Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. Arsene Wenger’s men have won their last five league games and are seeking to banish from memory the earlier part of the season when they were hammered at Man Utd and lost to Blackburn. With new signings settling in, it is the old guard who are starting to impress, Robin Van Persie has been nothing short of sensational, having scored 31 Premier League goals in 2011 and 13 league goals in his first 12 games this season. Midfielder Alex Song appears to be right on form also and had a very good game in the midweek victory over Borussia Dortmund which clinched their qualification to the next round of the Champions League. Fulham on the other hand are not doing so well, new manager Martin Jol has found it difficult to stamp his personality on the team and they are only two points from the relegation zone – they have also never won away at Arsenal! The home side are a very short price at 4/9 with Paddy Power, back Theo Walcott to break Van Persie’s hold on scoring all the goals to be first scorer at 15/2 with Totesport.
