Bigtips.co.uk Football Preview – Fri 16th Dec

Newcastle v Swansea
Newcastle take on Swansea at St James Park in this Saturday afternoon clash with the Geordies looking to arrest a downward spiral that has seen them slip out of the top four and into seventh place.  Swansea meanwhile are comfortable in eleventh place and looking to consolidate that position here, however they have a fairly woeful away record with five defeats and two draws from seven games.  Newcastle’s home form looks pretty good with four wins and only one defeat from seven games.  The bookies unsurprisingly have this down as a home win with Newcastle at 17/20 with VC Bet, Swansea are 4/1 with Bwin best price.  Demba Ba has had an excellent season so far and one of the bargains of the summer; he is only 7/2 with Boylesports to score the first goalscorer.

Everton v Norwich
An interesting looking clash at Goodison Park sees an Everton side who are struggling a little bit face a Norwich side who are full of confidence and looking to improve on what has been a very good to the season for them.  Norwich are in tenth place in the table and looking good, even though Everton are only two places below them, there is still a mood of depression around them with their search for a new owner seeming as never-ending as ever.  Norwich’s season has been built around good home and goals from Grant Holt and Steve Morrison and while they have only won one away game to date, the fact that Everton have already lost four home games will have them interested in this one.  The bookies aren’t giving Norwich much of a chance here as they are still 5/1 with Totesport to win.

QPR v Man Utd
Onto Sunday’s games and there is a midday kickoff for this important looking game, QPR have slipped a little down into 13th place and they have become draw specialists at home, with four draws out of seven games and only one win.  Despite their troubles in Europe this season Man Utd go into this game in strong form with only one defeat (at the hands of neighbours City) in the league this year and a very impressive away record.  They will look to continue that record here despite an ever increasing injury list which sees them without a number of key first team players.  QPR also have problems with Anton Ferdinand struggling for fitness whilst Kieron Dyer has unsurprisingly been ruled out for the season.  Utd are a very short 4/9 with Bet365 and the home side are 7/1 with Stan James.

Man City v Arsenal
The last game of the weekend is a pretty big one as it will be a real test of Man City’s resolve following their exit from the Champions League and their first league defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Monday.  It is also a big test for Arsenal after their recent recovery, their away record still looks suspect on paper with three defeats from seven games.  It looks pretty daunting when faced with City’s 100% home record, with 24 goals scored and only four conceded!  There is also the Samir Nasri factor in this match and many will be hoping that he and Arsenal’s Frimpong can continue their feud on and off the pitch!  The bookies have this down as a home win, with City 8/11 with Paddy Power and Arsenal 9/2 with Boylesports.
