Bigtips.co.uk Football Preview – Friday 26th Apr

Wigan v Tottenham
We start our preview by looking at a very big game for both sides for very different reasons.  Wigan are still in the bottom three and despite the fact that no side has been mathematically relegated yet they are the only ones who really stand a chance of escaping the drop.  They are currently three points away from Aston Villa and safety – they do still have a game in hand though – Villa themselves have a crucial game against Sunderland on Monday night to contest.  But Wigan really need to start picking up wins if they are to close that gap with only five games remaining, however Spurs will be a tough nut to crack as the London side are still on a high having beaten Man City 3-1 on Sunday with a convincing display.  Their battle lies in chasing that top four place and it really looks like it will go down to the wire with just two points separating Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea.  Wigan haven’t won in the league since the end of March so are in real need of a victory here, the bookies have them as 14/5 (Bet365) to win, the draw is 13/5 with Boylesports and the Spurs win is 11/10 with William Hill.

Chelsea v Swansea
Chelsea come into the game on the back of another decent win in the Europa League, winning 2-1 at Basel last night to give themselves a great chance of making the final.  Their league game before that was pretty eventful too with their defender Ivanovic being the victim of Luis Suarez’s gnashing!  As mentioned above they do still have lots to consider with their league campaign, as that battle for Champions League qualification continues.  Their league form has stood up pretty well in the face of a congested fixture list, but they have a tough looking run in - with Man Utd, Spurs and Everton still to face.  As for Swansea their season effectively ended when they won the league cup back in February!  They have not been too competitive since then, only winning one game, however I am sure manager Michael Laudrup will want to stop the rot to make sure they are in good shape for next season – it’s maybe too much of a stretch to see them doing anything here though.  The bookies have Chelsea as very firm favourites at 4/11 with Ladbrokes, the draw is 9/2 with Bet365 and the Swansea win is an unlikely 10/1 with Betfred.

Arsenal v Man Utd
So a day of celebration for Manchester United who claimed their 20th league title by beating Aston Villa on Monday night – Arsenal have promised them a guard of honour entrance onto the pitch – despite the fact that Robin Van Persie’s return will cause much angst amongst some home supporters.  United stand sixteen points clear of rivals and last season’s champions Man City – who only have five games remaining.  It is without doubt a season of success for Alex Ferguson, however there are still big questions over the quality of his squad having not progressed as far as he would’ve liked in the Champions League.  Arsenal are still involved in a battle for the top four but it fair to say that another trophyless season for Arsene Wenger represents a failure, they have not challenged at the top of the Premier League this season despite their strong finish and their fans will be expecting a summer of big signings to keep them happy.  As for the match Arsenal need the points a lot more than Man Utd and they are the bookies favourites at 13/10 with VC Bet, the draw is 12/5 with Coral and the Manchester United win is 9/4 with Stan James.
