Bigtips.co.uk Football Preview – Friday 3rd May

West Brom v Wigan
Massive game on Saturday sees Wigan travel to West Brom in desperate need of a victory and the three points that would give them a realistic chance of escaping the bottom three.  With Aston Villa hammering Sunderland on Monday night 6-1 – the gap at the bottom is now an ominous looking five points for Wigan with just four games remaining.  On the plus side for Roberto Martinez and his men, they face Aston Villa on the last day of the season so if they can remain within three points of them it could all come down to a showdown then.  Their away record is not so hot with ten defeats from their 17 away games so far.  As for West Brom they have had an excellent season and currently sit in 8th place in the league which for them is a very good achievement indeed.  Their home record is pretty good with nine wins, three draws and five defeats.  However the good news for Wigan is that West Brom look to be a little bit stranded in 8th place with a six point cushion over Swansea but a six point gap to Liverpool in 7th – so maybe they have nothing to play for?  West Brom are the bookies favourites at 29/20 with Bet365, the draw is 5/2 with VC Bet and the much needed win for Wigan is 11/5 with Stan James.

QPR v Arsenal
Sadly for QPR and Houdini Harry they were officially relegated last weekend after a truly disastrous season for them after Mark Hughes’s spending spree in the summer they have only managed to win a pitiful four league games this season which is a dreadful effort by anyone’s reckoning.  The challenge for Harry will now be trying to manage the ever increasing wage bill and trying to get rid of some of the more mercenary elements of his squad.  Arsenal on the other hand still have plenty to play for this season with Champions League qualification still very much up for grabs, Arsene Wenger’s men are in fourth place in the league at the moment and only two points clear of Spurs in fifth having played a game more.  Arsenal have three remaining games and they all look pretty winnable, with this one followed by a home match against Wigan then a trip to Newcastle, so the target will be nine points.  Naturally they are the heavy favourites to win this one at 4/9 with Ladbrokes, the draw is 4/1 with Betfred and the QPR win is 7/1 with Boylesports.

Man Utd v Chelsea
Manchester United have already celebrated and claimed their 20th league title and they enjoyed a guard of honour before last Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.  Robin Van Persie has been given the player of the month award by Barclays whilst coincidentally Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez is the manager of the month.  United’s season is already over with a fourteen point gap to second placed Man City so they should be playing in a pressure free mode with the focus being very much on how they can improve for next season.  As for Chelsea they have made it to the final of the Europa league and will face Benfica there but they are also involved in the battle for the top four.  They are currently in third place but only three points clear of fifth placed Spurs, who they face at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in what looks to be a very important clash indeed.  Their remaining two league games after that are a trip to Villa Park and then they host Everton on the last day of the season – plenty of twists and turns to come this season!  United are the favourites for this one at 5/4 with Coral, the draw is 13/5 with VC Bet and the Chelsea win is 5/2 with William Hill.
