King George and Welsh Grand National preview

Horse Racing fans have lots to look forward to over the festive period as two of the UK's favourite racing events take place in quick succession. On Boxing Day all eyes will be on Kempton and the 2013 King George VI Chase, and then on December 28th Chepstow hosts the Welsh Grand National.

King George VI Chase
The King George VI Chase is one of the UK's most prestige racing events. This year is set to be a classic as several horses look more than capable of crossing the finishing line of this challenging 3 mile course in first place.

In one of the most gripping finishes in recent times, Long Run secured victory in last year’s race by a neck. This year, Long Run is priced at 10/1 @ bet365 to win once again and is sure to be well backed.

Cue Card (11/4 @ bet365) is currently the favourite for this year’s race. After flopping at last year’s event, Cue Card has gone on to record victories in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham and the Betfair Chase at Haydock, suggesting that the horse will do much better this time around.

Dynaste (11/4 @ BetVictor) and Al Ferof (7/2 @ bet365) are also amongst the favourites, as is the top class chaser Silvinaco Conti (9/2 @ bet365).

There is normally a big field for the King George VI Chase and this year looks set to be no different. This provides the punters with plenty of opportunities to back an outsider, but be warned, the favourite has gone on to win 5 out of the last 7 King George VI chases.

Below is a full list of runners and their odds at bet365:
Cue Card 11/4
Dynaste 11/4
Al Ferof 7/2
Silviniaco Conti 9/2
Long Run 10/1
Mount Benbulben 12/1
Menorah 25/1
Champion Court 25/1
Prince De Beauchene 50/1

Welsh Grand National
The Welsh Grand National takes place at Chepstow on December 28th and this year has seen the prize money increased to an all-time high of £100,000. This is Chepstow's stellar event and attracts some of the best chasers in the world.

Last year’s winner Monbeg Dude will not be taking part but runner up Teaforthree (14/1 @ bet365) will be hoping to go one better. The favourite however is Sydney Padget (9/1 @ bet365) who recently strolled to victory at Hardock. He will face stiff competition from several other horses though including Goonyella (10/1 @ BetVictor). Goonyella is well fancied by many to win the 2013 Welsh Grand National, something that the Irish trainer Jim Drepaer has of course achieved before.

Below is a list of the top 10 runners and their odds at bet365:
Goonyella 9/1
Sydney Paget 9/1
Well Refreshed 9/1
Highland Lodge 10/1
Hawkes Point 12/1
Merry King 12/1
Teaforthree 14/1
Alfie Sherrin 14/1
De La Bech 14/1
Mountainous 16/1
